The Breakaways
About the Band
Paul Musson,
the most experienced member of the band, is lead singer and our
rhythm guitarist. Paul started in Melbourne with the group “The
Tidings” in the 1960’s, but later he joined top band ‘The Viceroys’.
In 1969 in a new band ‘Sons Of Bacchus’ he recorded two original
songs both of which reached the top ten. The song “Hey Mista” bounded up the charts to reach number one in three Australian
states. In 1971 Paul joined Perth band ‘Procla Rock’, but his next
series of high lights was winning numerous song writing awards
Australia wide during the period between 1980 and 2000. This
included his song ‘If You Weren’t Around Me Anymore’ which was a
finalist in the Golden Kite World Song Festival, Kuala Lumpur in
1984. Later he began working on the Gold Coast with top band ‘The
Jaguars’ over a six-year period. In 2006 he helped to form ‘The
Breakaways’. Paul has an incredible voice, plays great rhythm
guitar, and his relaxed attitude and terrific sense of humour, all
add to the flavour of the band.
Ken Buckley
has worked much of the 70’s with popular band ‘ The Graduates’, as
well as ‘Semanon’ the remnants of the ‘Quin Tikis and ‘Ti-Kiwis’
(playing the Sydney clubs) and more recently over the last ten years
with band ‘The Good Rockin’ Daddys’. The former band travelled
across several states of Australia as well as accomplished two trips
overseas, including two stints in Vietnam. ‘The Graduates’ played
extensively throughout Melbourne in the early seventies at venues
like South Side Six, Sandown Park and The Waltzing Matilda, and was
the first rock group to be invited to play at, the then very
prestigious, Wrest Point Casino. In Sydney the band worked the
Millers Hotel circuit as well as various venues in other capital
cities. Ken’s skill and experience as a lead guitarist and singer
has seen him accompany well-known artists the likes of John Rowles,
Johnny Devlin, Eden Kane, Little Pattie, Mike Furber, Ronnie Burns
and so on. Ken’s dedication to music and harmonies is a positive
strength for ‘The Breakaways’.
Avito
(King) Alefosio is the current drummer of ‘The Breakaways’. He
began his career at the end of the sixties with the Catholic Youth
Club Band in Dunedin, N.Z. In the early seventies he formed the
popular group ‘Harmony Three plus One’. Then after time with a few
other groups, he decided to leave for Australia. In 1989 Avito
arrived in Aussie and upon realizing his talent, he was snapped up
by ‘The Juke Box Jives’, a very popular Gold Coast Rock and Roll
Group. When it later disbanded, Avito joined a select number of
other bands including ‘Rumble Fish’ blues band, the ever popular
group, The Jaguars’ and then he was convinced by Paul Jackson, a
member of the ‘The Good Rockin’ Daddys’, to join the Dads and he did
so for a productive eight month period. Avito is an accomplished
and very professional drummer, who not only keeps near perfect time,
but also has close to perfect pitch when it comes to harmony. His
happy disposition is also one of his major strengths.
Dale Pearse,
the baby of the band, began playing music when he was 12 years of
age. During his high school days he was heavily involved in various
musical projects until his venture with Ipswich band ‘Tripsome’, who
played many venues throughout the South East. During this time, the
band released two self-funded CD albums. This steady association
continued for 11 years, sadly finishing in 1997. In the same year
Dale joined the ‘Darren J. Ray Band’ and played consistently with
them for a period of five years. Then in 2001 he formed the band
‘Local Brew’, and began playing extensively throughout South East
Queensland for another four years. In September 2005 he was asked
to rejoin the ‘Darren J. Ray Band’ and has done so until 2006, when
he was asked to join a new band, which is currently called ‘The
Breakaways’. Dale is a very talented bass player and his high
harmony would do Carl Wilson (of Beach Boys fame) proud.
